Water is cooler in Stainless Steel tank.

When a market study of buyers for Stainless Steel tank were done , there seem to be a concern amongst the majority that the stainless steel tanks may heat up the water inside the tanks much more than other tanks available
To investigate this matter, a month long continuous monitoring of the temperature of water inside stainless steel, plastic and galvanized steel tanks was done, exposing all the 3 tanks to direct sunlight. Temperature measurements were done with the help of data logger and PT-100 sensor. Temperature readings were taken at 10.00 am, 2.00 PM and at 5.00 p.m., in April which is one of the hottest months in Mumbai..

The Graph above shows the temepratures of water in the 3 tanks and the ambient temperature. From this month long investigations it was found that the water in the Stainless Steel tank was the coolest!!
The temperature of water in Stainless Steel tank was found to be cooler at all 3 times of the day the temperatures were measured. This may be attributed to the reflectivity, radiation effects and thermal conductivity of the shining polished surface of Stainless Steel.
All these above discussion accentuates the utility of Stainless steel over other conventional materials in food handling and processing industry.
